We are thrilled to invite you to our Annual DuSable Memorial on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 401 N Michigan Ave (Pioneer Court). This year, we will join the DuSable Park Coalition and Friends of the Parks to honor the memory of Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable, the Haitian-born founder of Chicago, on the 206th anniversary of his passing.
Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable’s legacy of entrepreneurship and inclusion was pivotal in the development of Chicago and the Midwest. We would be delighted to have you with us to celebrate this momentous occasion!
Here’s a glimpse of our exciting multi-part celebration:
Wreath-Laying Ceremony
Starting at 11:00 AM at Pioneer Court, this hour-long event will feature public officials, civic organization leaders, and other vested partners. We expect again this year broad participation by the Chicago rich academic community (University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology, Lake Forest College, University of Chicago). This high-profile commemoration is not to be missed!
Walking Tour of the DuSable Founders Trail
Immerse yourself in Chicago’s rich history with a mile-long historical walk covers Chicago’s early history before the DuSable era up to Chicago’s beginnings as a city. The tour concludes at 1:30 PM near DuSable Harbor.
